Somewhere, over the patriotic rainbow.....

I have learned there are many colours to patriotism. Some are dark, ugly and rancid. Others are bright, radient and essential.

I have personally never felt the touch of patriotism, until I moved to Wales 4 years ago. I was raised in a small sea-side tourist town on the South East coast of England, and the only patriotism I ever saw in others was the wrong kind. The kind that turns football fans into violent racists. That turns the BNP into a viable option for those concerned with the loss ...

We* are supposed to wake with the dawn and go to sleep with the dusk. Breed in spring, chill out in summer, harvest in autumn (fall) and get fat in winter. There are 13 moon cycles (give or take a few days) within one sun cycle...yet we break the year into 12 sections. We push ourselves day after day after day to be what we are told we must be......mortgage paying, fashionable, soap watching, macdonalds eating, politically ignorant, unquestioning, model citizens. We attempt to be happy by surrounding ...

This post was inspired by AC's post. Here's what I do to be a good steward of the Earth...

I live in Indiana where recycling by individuals is not mandated by law but I do my part by not throwing away the things that I can take to my local drop off site (i.e. cardboard, plastics, glass, and metals).

I sell or donate anything I don't need or want anymore rather than allowing it to (immediately at least) take up space in a landfill. I can't control what the next jerk does with it and ...

Why "global warming" Gets Me Heated

It should be made clear from the outset that my opinion, and my intent, here is not to try and tell you that global warming isn't happening. That is, if enough pieces of information point towards the fact that the Earth is indeed getting warmer then I'll believe it. If I wanted to try and convince you scientifically and statistically I would gather as much data as I could. But that's not my intention, and it's not where I have a problem.

My problem is a more political, sociological and media-orientated ...

Optical Illusion & reality

If optical illusions tell me that my neurological & optical perception of reality are at best, incomplete, then how can hallucinations (visual or auditory) be defined as something unreal because they are based on no stimuli?

But the stimuli which make me perceive optical illusions define my reality by representing an UNREAL reality, yet that stimuli is defined as being real.

What is cooking there then !?!!?!?!

Dawkins Brights and Dulls.

What are your views on Dawkins?

I really liked his ideas about the God Illusion, but then went off him when he started going on about "Brights and Dulls"

For anyone not aware of this concept of his, he states that anyone who is a true athiest is a "Bright" and anyone who believes in anything, not just the religious or spiritual but also anything supernatural or paranormal, is a "Dull". Anyone who thinks they may have seen a ghost, anyone who may be Agnostic, ...
