5.7 "...By Reason of Insanity"

I'm reaching the half way point with the season! Things will start getting action packed so strap yourselves in!

Episode Synopsis: The 06 are steps away from figuring out just how to get back to the island until they hit a snag. Could Leonard be the key or do one of the 06 need to get some outside help from song long lost friends?

I really used a literary reference in this one guys, but I will leave it up to you to figure out which one... this is the first one where I actually based the backstory off of another work. In the previous episodes it seems as if my stories happen to fit the literary works mentioned (but I did use those outside works for some reference).

An Apollo Bar to whoever can figure out what literary source I used (this should be rather easy).

JW, I just finished 5.7, an I enjoyed it immensely. I can really see some of these things, coming to fruition. I wouldn't be surprised if the Lost writers happen to see these, that they might try and use some of your ideas.

Think Hurley's flashes and think of the timelines of the order (the middle 3 flashes). Also, there is a hint in the text to the literary source I used... a character name perhaps?

I'm really glad you liked it and yeah, I do honestly think that my ending may prove to be a realistic thing the writers would do. We never saw Hurley's POV during that fateful flight.

Well, KatesawJack, you are still wrong. There are unlimited guesses though. You were right that the clue belongs with Nurse Cratchit though... but I intended Cratchit to be Cratchit and nothing else. I guess maybe this isn't as easy as I thought it would be... maybe it's just easy because I know what it is.... I assure you though, you have most definately read/seen it several times in your life.

Yeah, I used a Christmas Carol. Christian in the first flash and (I don't want to spoil anything for someone who didn't read yet so...) you know who in the last flash are something along the lines of the Ghost of Marley who explains to Hurley what is going on (like Marley did for Scrooge).

However, they aren't ghosts... that is something important to remember and I don't want people thinking they are.

Absoultely fantastic! This was my favorite by far. The diologue was well thought out and flowed well.

The only critisim I can offer was Jack referring to Sawyer's old girlfriend as "One of Sawyer's Whores" Whore sounded a little awkward to me. Other than that, this episode was a home run!

I questioned that line too, but you know what... given Sawyer and Jack's convo in season 1 about Sawyer and his STDs and his hate for Sawyer because he is the reason Kate was sneaking around behind Jack's back when they got off the island... I think the strong word of whore fits.

Also, thank you! I too think this is probably my best to date. Granted, I have a special place in my heart for 5.6 because of how hard and long it was to complete... that story doesn't offer much that is new except for Leonard being on the island and Jin's apparent time travel. I liked how I went about getting Jin back to 88 in order to tell Rousseaus story, but this one far surpasses in story. Thanks again!!!

Holy crap, I scored a double whammy here. KSJ, I'm sorry, but you were partially right with your first guess. I didn't realize until after the fact that Nurse Cratchit was also the nurse in One Who Flew... I intended it to be a hint towards the Christmas Carol, but in fact, it works for both! Go me! Haha, sooo I guess Smokette will have to share half of her Apollo bar with you. Good job!

Another great episode! Is Leonard insane, brainwashed or has been drugged continually to keep him appearing crazy?

I have always thought that Leonard was not as crazy as he appears. What is your take on Leonard's mental health?

You know something, I think I know why Darlton tries to avoid direct answers when they are asked questions because I am not completely sure I am done with Leonards character enough to answer that with exactness....

I will say, that yes, he was genuinely insane because of the numbers, but moreso what happened to him on the island. What unlocked his insanity was being shown the numbers again with a purpose. In essence, by Hurley showing him his equation and Hurley telling Leonard that he believes him about the island... it kinda knocked Leonard out of his 19 year downward spiral.
