I agree with John-Vee with the over packaging issue.
My town provides a nice big container for recycling that comes with a big bill and heavey fine if I don`t obey there particular rules. I try to obey the rules. I run around constantly turning off lights. If the ac is on it is very very hot and I never sleep with the heat or ac on.
I break apart the plastic that holds cans of beer/soda together mostly because I saw a speacial as a kid with baby duklins heads stuck in them.
I wish I did more but thats it for now.

Man, they really got inside your head dude.
Are you throwing the plastic container holders in the recycle bin? If so you are wasting your time breaking them apart bud. They are only a hazard (supposedly) if they make it to the local landfill. If they are being recycled they do the shredding for you. Nice of them huh?

Re: What are YOU doing to "save the earth"?
I do that too! I didnt realise you dont need to if they are recycled, but I will probably continue as breaking them buggers apart is kind of theraputic in a wierd way...........
Oh an Vinnie, we are about to see the start of rubbish fines...people will be fined if they put out more than a certain amount of "landfill" rubbish. I can only see it causing more problems with people fly-tipping and using other peoples bins to avoid the fines

This is comforting:

Perhaps in the future to prevent "fly-tipping" they will be able to trace who bought the item and if it was placed in their bin. Not too terribly difficult in a society that is becoming increasingly cashless. So now they know what you are buying and throwing away. Eventually they may adjust your insurance rate based on the foods you buy and consume.
Stay tuned USA! As the UK goes so go we.

Re: What are YOU doing to "save the earth"?
While they'd be able to keep track of what items you'd purchased, determining which particular soda can or whatever was actually purchased by you would be impossible at this point. There would need to be a different Universal Product Code (UPC - AKA "barcode") on each can/box/item at your grocery store. At this point, every single identical item has an identical UPC. If they're going to waste the time to serial number everything at the grocery store, that seems like over-kill to me - time that could be spent on much more productive things than turning this into an Orwellian world.

Yes, that would be the common sense line of thinking, but the world is at stake here! Therefore it's justifiable.

Re: What are YOU doing to "save the earth"?
This subject was too huge for me to take-in, but someone has a signature on this site about saving Earth coz it's the only planet with chocolate, I can definitely get with that, and I think I like Blonde's 5 year old's philosophy about 'going with the flow'.
also Bondage Barbie is a new one on me! I have a good barbie joke but I fear it may be censored! i think it's borderline so I'll give it a go.
why does barbie never get pregnant?
because Ken comes in a different box!

If they bring that in, I will be paying for everything with cash. I refuse to allow my freedoms to be eroded that much....and while everyone keeps saying "if you have nothing to hide what do you need to worry about".......they can just erode them even more.
I have had a few drinks.

I think because of certain key spelling, you're fine.

Re: What are YOU doing to "save the earth"?
They have already been fining us for not properly arranging the plastics/ papper/ tin. The thing is they just gave us a HUGE bin for everything its not to be seperated and they would have no idea what we put in it as te truck never stops it just picks up the new bin with a huge robotic arm ( all the neibor kids think its cool).
SunnyP and Shamballa I still can`t get the poor duck stuck in the plastic out of my head that and te crying Native American has guilted me into being green.
