Hadron Collider and Time Travel

Post by SunburnedPenguin on Sat Sep 06, 2008 11:37 am

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/main.jhtml?view=DETAILS&grid=&xml=/earth/2008/09/05/scilhc105.xml

The Hadron Collider is due to be turned on this coming wednesday (date 10.09.08 - oddly!) and while I am not one of the people worried it will cause the end of the world, I am fascinated by this other article...

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/main.jhtml?xml=/earth/2008/02/06/scitime106.xml

2008 could well be year zero for temperal time travel. Theoretically, if time travel is possible, we cant go back any further than when the first time machine is created - and this Hadron Collider could be, according to many, the first time machine. Bizarre. Just.....bizarre.

Holy crap, that is this week?! I am actually a little freaked out by it because it could potentially kill us all. In fact, I don't understand how they would be granted permission to even turn it on seeing as how they have no freaking clue what is going to happen. Do you know what time they are turning it on? I would like to be a little drunk around that time just incase it is the end.

Im not sure....but I will be getting drunk aswell, just in case like Very Happy

Report back thursday morning and i'm sure we will all still be here! (Remembering the theory that quantum particles can be altered by the act of observation, tie it in with the idea of positve thinking....if we believe we will stil be here then we will!)

Yeah, Jax, keep telling yourself that.... when we are all sucked into a black hole and are floating around dead in space somewhere I will be sure to look you up and say "I told you so." Hey, maybe we will all get transported to the island?!

Today's the day! For those of us in the USA, they are turning it on while most of us are asleep. 3:30 am EST. For those of you in Europe it will be 9:30 am whatever timezone Geneva is in.

If we are all dead when we wake up (yeah, make sense of that) I want you all to know that I love you and you made my last few weeks here at Losties very enjoyable. If we don't make it, I will see you all on the "big island" in the sky!

If we do make it, I will see your butts on here tomorrow. Haha.

Ste Hawking said people worrying about the end of the world is stupid. And I read a guy in a paper, a Manchester professor working on the project, referred to anyone who thought the world was going to end as a "tw-t", which I thought was great stuff.

Although a little warping ripple effect might have brightened up my day a bit.

Woohoo we are still here! cheers

I cant wait to read about the results.....this is a really exiting time for physics and I constantly wonder what changes we are going to see in our lifetime! I am sure that we will see the most amazing advances.....maybe not time travel or mulit-verse travel, but certainly the beginnings of a whole new world of science!
