the sudden rain downpour on the island

Post by Moefy on Mon May 19, 2008 10:23 pm

whilst reading a time bubble theory i came across how rain suddenly falls rapidly at any moment in time on the island. This could be the rain slowing down throught a point on the island and then gathering all the rain and time resumes normally. I dont think this is right lol but it could be another phenomena to the mysterious time travel theory. Cool

Also, how does Locke always seem to know what the rain will do? Hmmm...

He just feels it in the air like old people do Claire

They even link that to time travel ? That's a bit too much.. Makes sense.. But too much. Does that mean Locke sees the future ?

The weather is one of those areas of unchartered territory for Lost, but the door has been opened on it for quite some time.

Obviously, we have all the business with the sudden downpours that Locke seems to be able to predict. There was also the business with the freak tides that Michael spoke of in Season One.

On the Blast Door Map there are some notations that relate to Dharma engaging in meteorological (weather) studies. So it seems the Island certainly has unique weather properties - but the precise purpose, potency and cause of these is, as I said at the start, one area of unchartered territory. So far.

I've noticed, as have others, that rain (or just water for that matter) on the island usually symbolizes distress or negativity. Countless arguments in the rain, charlie's drowning, Jin's negative attitude at the beginning when he always fished, claire almost drowning, etc...

Puchita - Absolutely right. It may even be that the stormy rain that occurs around particularly fraught moments of drama is not a seperate element at all. Maybe Dharma were somehow studying the link between psychology and meteorology. . .? Perhaps they had somehow linked the two fields of study. . .?

I think the fact that Locke knows when it going to rain, is just because he wanted to go on that walkabout and probably researched a lot about it.

Im pretty sure in tropical climates that rain just comes and goes quickly, naturally especially in monsoon season. Anyway if theres any problems on the island. Eko and his Jesus stick will sort it out.

Maybe Locke and Chuck Norris are the same person.

But seriously, it seems like everytime they are frantically setting out into the jungle to find some one or some thing, it starts raining, too. Maybe someone who has A LOT of time could whip up a chart for us! You know, by watching all 4 seasons and feverishly taking notes.

I believe it is just a tool for symbolism. I only believe this because the writers have enough to explain and I don't believe that they will get to the rain. The rain symbolized change IMO.

Re: the sudden rain downpour on the island

Speaking of weather, In No Place Like Home, the character played by Michelle Forbes mentions a typhoon that moved through the pacific. This happend sometime when the Losties were on the island.

If you've ever ridden out a typhoon (hurricane) --I have, 3 sofar---you know that they are big. SInce the presumed location of the Lost island is roughly the same lattitude of Bali and since these types of storms generally move east to west, isn't it reasonable to assume that there would have been some noticable effect on or around the island?

I was thinking that too MSHL...Maybe they figured it would be too hard to combine with the island. But I was thinking that before she mentioned it, so I was surprised when she mentioned it...
