Ghosts...Or are they?
No one has cracked this section of the forum yet, so I'm going to swing Eko's Jesus stick and give it a go. My first "BIG" theory.
We've all been speculating about the "entities" who appear on the island that we are led to believe are dead. Christian Shephard, Goodspeed, Yemi, Charlie and Claire immediately spring to mind. So we label them ghosts while holding out hope that the explaination for their appearance will be something far more interesting than the walking dead.
If the island is in a time loop, wouldn't it be safe to presume that these individuals are too?
Are they spectors, or could they be echos of things that have already happened or will happen within said loop replaying themselves over and over again? Like a tape auto-rewinding and starting over.
Goodspeed chopping down the same tree no less than three times gave me the idea.
And I recall having the same thoughts when Walt appeared to Shannon talking backwards and again when Boone appeared in Locke's dream muttering, "Theresa falls up the stairs, Theresa falls down the stairs." These things in and of themselves make little sense, but if you think of them like the tape I mentioned before, it sort of fits, no?
Or maybe I ate too much DHARMA Imitation Ranch Style Dressing.

Personally, I like the the idea of electrical energy being stored by the islands magnetic properties. All brain energy produced by people on the island is stored within the islands magnetic rocks creating 'personality records' if you like. And some force on the island is able to call them up and effectively recreate that person. (Christian Shepard it got from Jack and Claires memories of him, in case you were wondering lol)

Re: Ghosts...Or are they?
Maybe this is why the "new" Chris Shephard is wearing different clothe, we always see Chris with his black tuxedo and white shoes, and now in Jacob cabin he is wearing a more casual cloth: maybe this is how Claire remember him.JimReaper wrote:Personally, I like the the idea of electrical energy being stored by the islands magnetic properties. Great point kahana, I didn't think of that. According to the producers the white tennis shoes are supposed to be significant somehow.

Re: Ghosts...Or are they?
Molly from the examples you used 2 are from dreams and one is Wlat who is not dead so I don't really think they fit.
I do like JR's point though, especially with Kahana observation added.

the Ionesco quote:
La libertad de la fantasía no es ninguna huída a la irrealidad, es creación y osadía
roughly translated is
The freedom of fantasy, is not that it can take you on a flight of unreality, but that it can be the source of creativity and boldness.

Kahana, I thought that too. I noticed how Christian looked almost plastic the first time we see him, almost inhuman. But now he looks more and more real he even has a spoken part now.

I agree! I believe that things will be explained one way or other (time
loop or energy being stored by the island)! However these don't have
to be mutually exclusive!
1+ for observation... remembering the good old days!
