Locke... Is he really dead? Empty Locke... Is he really dead?

Post by Achara Tue Jun 03, 2008 3:44 pm

So we finally know who's in the coffin... John Locke!

Last year, when I watched the Season Three Finale, Locke was actually the first person I thought of when I was trying to think of who could possibly be in the coffin. I suppose it was because of his line to Jack, "You're not suppose to do this!". I just thought it would be an interesting way for Jack to realize that Locke was right all along. It would create all kinds of conflicting emotions in Jack... to admit he was wrong and Locke was right... tough pill to swallow. But more painful than that would be in learning that other people suffered severe consequences for his wrong decision! And as much as he clashed with Locke, I think he would feel awful realizing that he was responsible for Locke's death! All of this would completely devastate Jack! *sigh* But then, for some reason, I dismissed that idea and never really entertained it again.

Sooo, when we finally saw the Season Four Finale and learned that it WAS in fact, John Locke... I was very surprised. My first thought was, "How did he get off the island?" Then I was just flat out mad!... "NO! Locke can't be dead! I like Locke. He can't DIE!!" (yeah, I was pretty bummed!)

So I started thinking, "Well, what if Locke isn't dead? What if he only looks dead?"

And then I remembered something!... "Wait a minute!...THE MEDULA SPIDER!". (from the Nikki/Paulo Episode, "Expose") What if Ben and Locke are in ca-HOOTS together... those sneaky manipulative little devils... faking Locke's death by using the Medula spider to paralyze Locke so that he "appears" to be dead... all in efforts to bring Jack back to the island? So it's ALL just one of Ben's famous PLANS!

You know what, I thought exactly the same thing about Christian. I'm so glad your here....as so far I seem to be the only person who thinks the Medusa spider has been used by Ben to "fake" deaths Very Happy

I personally can see no reason for the Nicki/Paulo epidose, other than to introduce the Medusa spider.

Yeah I like this, perhaps because I don't want Locke to be dead. I will point out though that to-date no theory that somebody is still alive who appears to be dead has actually been right.

First time for everything!

I'm not so sure. I don't think that the spider is going to keep Locke looking dead for that much time. If I remember correctly, the Medusa spider just kept Nikki and Paulo paralized for 8 hours or so, except they got buried alive at that point. Locke knew that he had to die in order to get Jack to listen and I'll bet that when they bring Locke's body back, he'll be about as dead as Cristian Sheppard is.

That episode, "expose," was for the writers to sort of break the 4th wall with the audience. Darlton were getting E-mails and letters from fans knit picking all sorts of moments and complaining that Nikki and Paulo never got a full back story. They made this semi-cheesy episode to let the audience know that it is just a show, and to take it as such.

Jax and Achara I couldn't agree with you more! I've always thought they would use the spider somehow as well, and that Christian used it to fake his death to get inside that coffin.

This is definitely a possibility with Locke!!!

And Lost_Dbutz, I could be wrong, but I thought it was like 16-18 hours of paralization

Inteesting idea Achara, and nice out for those of us who don't want Locke to really be dead. But...

If it was a spider bite I hope it was in effect when the coroner did the autopsy on Locke!

Ben & Locke in cahoots? Only if the Ben part of the plan involves beating John to death with his little asp.

And we forget the Orchid orientation video from last year...a duplicate bunny appeared. Is this a duplicate Locke body?
Well probably not, but...

Locke is dead. The Island will ressurect him.

Yeah it is an idea, but as much as I want Locke to be alive I also want him to be dead, in a strange kind of way. I want to know how he died when, who. Oh and also, I think your going through the five stages of death. Stage one - Denial. lol!

I've thought of this when Christian started appearing on the island more frequently. It would definitely save the writers from more the embarassment tied to that episode.

I don't want Locke to be dead either. But someone somewhere on here (sorry for not remembering) said that this may be Ben's big ticket back. To resume his role at Others King.

I agree with Lost_Dbutz about the time issue being problematic. I was under the impression that a couple of days had passed since Jack first saw the newspaper article which would rule out the Medusa spider.

From Lostpedia: "Two days after reading about Locke's death, Jack, surrounded by maps and alcohol at home, calls Kate to meet her that night at the airport."

I like MSHL's idea about Jeremy Bentham being a duplicate or "bi-located" Locke. He was very close to the source of the energy release when the island "moved" and Locke sporting a new name reminds me of the good Dr. Marvin Candle, Dr. Mark Wickmund, and Dr. Edgar Halliwax.

Two of not only Locke but of the rest of the cast is something that had crossed my mind after seeing the second rabbit appear. Double trouble! Smile

The doctor being killed and then showing up late would not factor in because he was not on the island before.

Maybe he has to go back dead so he can be "reborn" or whatever like Christian Shepherd.
But how he got off the island, I hate to say it, but i think maybe the sub.
Now i really don't like the idea that Locke blowing up the sub was fake. But then i read this.----

---When Locke was walking away from the submarine in "The Man from Tallahassee", he appeared to be soaking wet, despite the fact that we never saw him get into the water. This was just before the blow-up. Are we supposed to be wondering why John Locke was all wet? Damon Lindelof says: No comment. ---

All wet, like Shanon's vision of Walt and Juliets vision of Harper.

I also found on Lostpedia ---

---The NYC taxi cab sound effect associated with the Monster can be heard just before Nikki is bitten by the other spiders. In the March 21, 2008 edition of the Official Lost Podcast, Damon says the medusa spiders were a form of the monster. ---
