The Runway the others built so the 06 could return

Maybe I am wrong but when Kate and Sawyer were captured by the others they had them built the runway. What happens if, Ben had an idea of what was going to happen and had them build it so they could return someday. Just a thought I mean it seems pointless to show that and then never mention it again.

Was it a runway they were building though? I never heard it called a runway in the show, unless I missed something

SBP Juliet said it was a runway. Then she joked it was for the aliens to land on. The runway part seemed pretty real though.

In that case, I think the OP might be on to something.

Maybe, the runway idea seemed intersting a little while ago. Then they just dropped it. I wouldnt be surprised if this was a twist episdoe ending. Also as a runway is one of the most unatural things you could build on an island. As Jacob clearly wanted him to leave.

How exactly does one break rocks the way they were/the tools they were using to build a runway though? lol...that's always bothered me a bit so I just figured Juliette was lying

There was also a cut scene where Danny Pickett tells Sawyer that they are clearing the land for a runway....so I believe it is for a future plot.

And let's not forget, the runway is not being built on the main Island. It's on Hydra Island.

Runway for what? Cessna? chopper? X-wing? hang glider? 747? if the latter, they're gonna need to capture a LOT more Losties and put them to work!

I think the runway line was a project started by Ben to give the Others the feeling that they could leave the island if they wanted...sort of like the submarine gimmick he told to Locke.

Besides, even if they pick up the runway thread in future seasons, considering how little of it was built, there won't be much they can land there.

Interesting take on it, that, MSHL. That it was a futile exercise designed to keep The Others busy. . . If nothing comes of it, at least we could say that was what it was for!

I assumed that was some BS busy work Ben had the others doing to keep the people busy doing something they thought was important.
Or maybe they finished making enough fake beards and needed something esle to do.

But what if Ben made the runway for the day he had to return? eh? He "always has a plan"

But there was a submarine. There could be a small airstrip. They looked like they had a decent clearing. Assuming they we just breaking the rocks to smooth out part of the area, and maybe for a gravel bed... it's... vaguely reasonable. Assuming they bring in New Otherton Paving and Sealing to actually lay the tarmac. An all-gravel runway would suck pretty hard.
