Cloud formation from Pilot Part Empty Cloud formation from Pilot Part

Post by StitchExp626 Wed May 14, 2008 1:27 pm

What is the meaning of the cloud formation at the end of the long pan shot in the second part of the pilot episode, it appears to have words in it.
This occurrs in part 2 of the pilot, directly after the scene with Hurley and Sayid there is a long pan along the beach which ends up bringing kate into the frame. Having Kate there obviously focuses our attention towards her. BUT if you keep your focus on the clouds you will see that they have a very strange formation, they spell out the world Lost.
Maybe this is a easter egg or it may be pointing to something about the island being created/man made???
Examine the cloud formation and let me know what you think.

OK to be honest I am just reposting this theory to make this place feel like home. PLeaser humour me at this stage!

Ok, I agree, you can see something, but I don't know...isn't that kind of goofy? Is an Easter egg meant to be a clue, or just some random and meaningless "trinket," (for lack of a better word). I have never really focused much on the Easter eggs...you'd think I should, huh?

AngeloComet - if I were to admit that I see the word Lost, I would also have to say that it is in a cursive font or something. Not the usual block print that we are so used to. But I am admitting nothing. Neutral

I think that it is in a cursive font and it probably means nothing, unless it is a strange method of communication with Kate from someone. Although one would hope that some of the other Losties might notice the strange cloud formations.

I think it is just an example of how the show can put something on the screen but direct our attention elsewhere. The sequence is well worth watching, as the appearance of Kate draws our focus away from the clouds, which up to that point in the shot were quite ordinary. But if we watch the sequence with our focus on the clouds then it is quite interesting!

Whatever it means or doesn't mean, I am so thankful to SunburnedPenguin that we can discuss the serious stuff and the silly stuff, if we so desire. At Lost Theories, it felt like you had to be so serious with everything you posted or people would rip you apart. And even then, they would rip you apart. Mad

I like to play devil's advocate sometimes, and sometimes just have a "what if" discussion about even the most minute or ridiculous items. It's nice to have a safer, more relaxed place to do that. Laughing

Thanks SP!

Okay, here are my observations on this subject:

It looks more like the word last.

if it says lost it could mean that Kate lost her clothes...or the producers have lost their dignity and just want to show kate nearly naked (I have no problem with that)

The clouds to the right of it seem to spell out the word 'Elastic" This may mean that the elastic bands in Kates Clothes are lost, again, causing her clothes to fall off. (and again, I have no problem with that)

Also, right below Kate's body is what appears to be an erect...oops, my mistake, that's something in front of my computer's monitor, not on it...excuse me, I need some quality "alone time"

I'm back.

I think this is more like the face on Mars kind of thing. The eyes see a random set of shapes and the brain tries to make it into some kind of understandable pattern...however, I put nothing past the show's creators.

I'm going to take back my previous impression because under closer observation it does seem like a manipulated image...What it means, I don't know...but there is very little in Lost that in not meant as a clue or a way to misdirect us

It could be either Lost, Lust, or Last.

But look at the cloud formation to the right. It looks like there might be a word in there too.

I just think if Lindelof and Cuse actually sent out to have the word Lost digitally manipulated into the clouds, and what they got handed back had the Little Mermaid phallus L, looked like it could have read Lost, Last, Lust, or Lint, and wasn't even in the official font(!), somebody would have been sacked.

Congrats Molly. You are officially the first person to write the word "penis" on this site.

Very Happy

now someone hurry up and write the word "testicles" and we'll have a matched set.
