Some ideas for the forum - your feedback needed!

Hello Losties

Now you have had time to settle in and get used to the forum, I would like some feedback on a few ideas I have, and of course any ideas you may have. So let me put a few suggestions to you to see what you think

Karma: There is no way of rating individual posts on phpbb unfortunately, but there is a mod I can install that allows members to give plus or minus "karma" points to other members, with a comment if they wish. The amount of karma points a member has then shows up under their avatar. It can be renamed from Karma to something else, all suggestions welcome.

Hall of Fame: The original idea was to simply move the most popular theories over to this section, but how about nominations? Once a month we could have nominations for the best theories that month, and then a member vote on the nominated theories, with the winning post being moved to the Hall of Fame, and a neat little title for the author - something like "Hall of Famer" under their avatar. This could either be for theories only, or for any post made on the forum.

Newsletter: A quarterly newsletter highlighting the most talked about topics, birthdays and other events, and some member submitted content too.

Ranks: This forum has a facility to assign ranks to users who reach certain post counts, which are then displayed under the avatar....for example "newbie" until 50 posts made, "addict" after 1000 posts...that kind of thing. So what i'm after is your ideas for Lost related rank titles relative to post counts!

I would really appreicate your feedback on the above ideas...this is YOUR forum afterall! If anyone has any other suggestions then this is the place to post them!

Instead of "karma" points, maybe we should call them "Dharma" points.

I think that Karma or Dharma points are good, I think that this will make many of us feel at home.

Personally I would like to see the Hall of Fame being given to the winning debate arguments. This is an area where we as a group vote and decide upon the winner!

Newsletters sound so cool, it would be cool to see a birthday list and allow us to say happy birthday. (Hey AC happy birtday, early but better than belated!)

In terms of Ranking I think

0-10 = Flight Attendant
11-50 = Tailie Section
51-200 = Lostie
201-500= Others
501-1000 = On Jacob's List
1001-5000 = The Chosen Ones
5000+ = The New Oceanic (n) wher n = number of posters that reach this benchmark!

I really like the idea of renaming karma points to Dharma points, I'll set that up tonight.

Hall of fame: Yes it would be good to have the best debates go in there - perhaps there could be catagories ie Debate, Theory, Humour etc.

I'll start a topic tonight for ideas for content for the newsletter then, but i'm thinking quarterly ie Spring, Summer, Autumn/Fall and Winter.

Well it seems the Karma (Dharma) points system I wanted to use is not compatible with this version - its a new version so a lot of mods have to catch up

As soon as its compatible, hopefully not too long, I'll implement it

If people feel the need to be rated until you get the app up and running can they not set their theory up as a Poll and have it as agree/disagree?

I think thats a really good idea. I agree with Todd that rating can be destructive, and thinking about it - well rating on a member other than individual posts could be even more so

Atleast for the mean-time, if someone adds an agree/disagree poll to their theory, it gives every poster the choice whether to have their theory rated or not.

When the karma mod is available for this version I'll run a poll to see if it is actually wanted here or not

I think the winning Debates should have their own section. Mind, if they're being posted together that won't make any sense - and the fact that it has its own section anyway sort of keeps it apart from any hall of fame thing. . .

I like the idea of Dharma/Karma points, too.

Yeah, I like the idea of Karma points as well. Then we could have monitors for this system and they could be 'Karma Police'. Havent put many of them in recently. Better get to work...
