How about music?
We've got a thread for what TV we watch other than Lost. Well, other than DriveSHAFT and Geronimo Jackson, what's in our CD/record players?

Love your avatar SAOY
I like all types of music but mainly 70's & 80's rock (glam, metal, and prog), and 90's grunge, aswell as a lot of the modern solo-acoustic stuff such as Jack Johnson and Ray La'Montague.
My all time faves have to be Led Zeppelin, Vain, The Cult, Jovi, Skid-Row, Counting Crows, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Ozrich Tentacles, and.....Elvis
Yeah I know i'm a walking cliche lol

Wow, it's rare I bump into anyone who knows of Ozric Tentacles. I have one of their CDs.
My favorites are a bit of a mix, but a lot of it is the classic '60s and '70s stuff. An abbreviated list: Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, Radiohead, Beck, Talking Heads, Stone Temple Pilots, Phish, and a whole bunch of others.
I'm also a musician myself, both solo and with a friend of mine as a band. We are our own biggest fans, so I've got to include LawnMeister on the list, too.

Re: How about music?
Do you have any of your music online? I can link to our myspace page, but it would be confusing right now - the featured music is the "All-Star Tribute to LawnMeister" - 18 of music's brightest stars doing their renditions of our songs. Of course, they're all just me doing impressions of those bands.

I'll put up some of our regular stuff soon. We're very diverse, so you'll get a good idea of all our influences once I change the music. I'll let you know when that happens.

Oh, and I love your voice, by the way. We should do some sort of cross-the-pond collaboration. I love working with new people.

And, I take it you're doing the acoustic playing. Are you playing the other stuff too? The addition guitars, beats, etc?

Re: How about music?
Well, I like your guitar stylings on "Last Year". Reminds me of Fleetwood Mac, I think - with a touch of Floyd.
And what software do you use for multi-tracking? I do the same, and mine is also quite dated. Then again, till only a few years ago, I was using an old reel-to-reel tape recorder that allowed you to bounce tracks from channel to channel and add instruments that way, and in that process I learned many tricks I still use digitally. I think it's good to learn all you can do with limited toys. You get better that way, not relying on the machine to do your work.
We could probably talk for hours on this topic.

Re: How about music?
I use N-Track which while dated, is pretty good. All you need is a pc, a pc mic and some headphones and your off! Its very easy to use. I will get some more up-to-date software though as I want to re-record everything and bring it up to date. Most of my songs are unfinished lol

Re: How about music?
I use Sonic Foundry's ACID Music. It's kind of designed so that it's really easy to make a techo-styled song, in that it generates loops for you, but you can just record a straight miked song into it. I often do a bit of a combination - create a beat using loops, then record live instruments over top of that.
If you need any help mastering/cleaning up files when you re-record, just hit me up. I've got some good stuff for that too.

Re: How about music?
Oh, and you'd find this interesting. I finished a CD this winter which was mostly catchy Beatles-esque stuff - mushy lyrics and all that. Oddly though, as I listened to it later, I noticed that most of the songs (unintentionally) had seemingly Lost-related double meanings. In fact, the word "lost" appeared several times. I even mentioned whispers in one of the songs - and loss of the ability to speak. I really wasn't trying it.

Re: How about music?
I've been a club and mobile dj since 1979 and, as much as I am almost embarrassed to say this. since I do about 300 show per year and play music from 4-8 hours, 5-6 nights a week...the absolute LAST thing I want to hear is more music!
Glad I'm not a gynocol...that's horrible, I'm a bad person.

ooooh SAOY, you got that Tom Petty thing going doooooooown!!!!
Love your stuff, its lighthearted and entertaining, also very well performed! Love it!
MSHL - My Uncle in NZ does the same as you and probably for just as long (as long as I can remember anyway) and he still loves it....and he is the same about listening to music outside of work...his idea of a nightmare is going to an event with a dj

HIP... HOP... HIP... HOP. In all forms, from the old school, to the ghetto new school, korean, militant, slow and smooth, to booty grinding. Of course hip hop with good lyrics is my favorite (not bling, i'm rich, hoes, and cars, but that soulful, deep stuff. BUt give me a good beat and I'll rock it.
also like Cumbia, Salsa, Mexican Rancheras, and Mana!
