"Be Here Now" by Richard Alpert - pics and theories!
Hey guys, So I promised vincentthedog that I would post this stuff last weekend, but I had some serious issues trying to get all of these pictures to post, so I am just going to do this one piece at a time. I'll try to come in here and update another picture every day until I've shown all of the good ones.
Here is the much awaited theory with pictures
from the book "Be Here Now" written by Dr. Richard Alpert. This book
and its concepts have no doubt been a large influence on Lost and I'd like to
share some pictures that I think are directly related. Enjoy!

This first one is the cover of Dr. Alpert's book. Notice the chair in the
center of a circle
with lines drawn across several points.
This chair looks something like Jacob's chair (yet not a rocking chair,
I know). What I like is the lines
through the circle. The lines all meet
on the perimeter at 12 different points.
I think the circle represents the earth and the 12 points are Vile
Vortices.

This second picture just talks about the distribution of
profits made from the book sales. A
percentage goes to the Lama Foundation (Hanso?) and there's the sentence at the
end, "Yours in the dharma."
Connection? The Lama foundation is likely connected to the Dali Lama. Remember
the test that Richard Alpert gave 5 year old Locke? It's similar to finding the
reincarnation of the Dali Lama in real life.

This third picture is the preface page to the section that
describes the journey of the transformation from Dr.Richard Alpert to Baba Ram
Dass. I think this whole concept has a
lot to do with Lost. The writers are
trying to tell us a character story and, much like Alpert/Ram Dass, our
characters are making a transition in their lives. They must all reflect and
learn to be better
people, and for some it has been difficult. The center picture looks very
similar to the Orchid station symbol and the center of it is a symbol known as
the Aum (or Om).
Well that's it for now, I'll come and add some more pictures later, there are a lot to look at, so keep checking on this post, it will be a good one.

Ah, well in the preview I had these pictures sized up correctly, but when I sent them they were too big. Well, I'll try to get the next ones sized up correctly, but this forum really hates pictures and pasting.

Wow thanks for sharing that!
Re the pics, I had a look at the code and you are using this;
which is the direct link from photobucket. Instead, on photobucket, use the resizing option and then just use the img code like this;
Hope that helps and I look forward to seeing more!

This is a real book that was written by Dr. Richard Alpert. Check him out in Wikipedia. So many other pictures to show, but I am positive that the writers of Lost have read this book.
Thanks for the posting tip SBP, let's try another pic and see how it works:

This one is of a child, not sure how that relates, but it says Namaste, our well known blessing from buddist culture and the Dharma training videos.

The Heart Cave...hmmm.
I wonder if it has any connection to the cave that Jack and Kate found
that contained the bodies of Adam and Eve.

Looks like the IMG code worked well. I could've sworn I tried that before, oh well.
I actually had this book since before Lost was even a show. My mom had it since the 70's (she was sorta a hippy) and she gave it to me years ago. I didn't even make the "Richard Alpert" connection until halfway through Season 4.
More to come later, or at least as time permits, work is getting busy. Peace -LDB

I remember this post on L-T. . . It was good stuff then.
(I know it's a big ask, but I think it would be worthwhile if you could get all the images down in one post. L-T was a pain for some screencaps because of their sizing problems, so I think a full post of the same one you did there on here would look great!)

AC, I will work to try to get the rest of these on here in the next post, but I've gotta go do a lot of resizing and whatnot, and we'll see how the site likes me posting so many pictures at once.
In the meantime, here are some pics for today. Enjoy!

Open for discussion.
Consciousness as defined by BRD.

"Astral Plane" and the Yin & Yang concept,
I've heard these before.

More on Yin & Yang and the Astral plane. Talks about duality and this is something
that is ever present in Lost.

This one is interesting.
It is about a universal guru (Jacob?) and "a Level of
consciousness, a frequency of vibration, a connection on another
plane." More below.

And this final picture was found just below the previous one
about the guru. It has an empty chair,
yet there are footprints below the chair.
Is there someone in the chair that cannot normally be seen? Looks familiar. The quote about "blessed are those that
have not seen and yet have believed."
I this this could be related to Jacob.

Re: "Be Here Now" by Richard Alpert - pics and theories!
So I saw that some folks mentioned that this might be
related to the Room 23 video that was used to brainwash Karl. I think this may be right. I looked a little further and found a few
things. Here is a link to the
brainwashing video just for a reminder:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gar6JyV6800&NR=1
OK, first of all, look at the very beginning, there is a
picture of faces and eyes and it makes a strange square shape with indented
edges. It looks very similar to the
shape below (this is the cover page to the second part of the book, From Bindu
To Ojas):

Next thing in the video that I noticed is the quote,
"Plant a good seed and you'll joyfully gather fruit." This picture from the book may relate to the
same concept:

And this next one looks similar to an images that is flashed
several times in the video, which almost looks like the Oceanic 6 symbol. It is also the cover page to part 3 of the
book, Cook Book for a Sacred Life.

That's all for now on the room 23 video references, I'll try
to find more for you all later. But I'll
continue with other interesting pages that I found.
Interestingly enough, the second part of the book, From
Bindu to Ojas, has exactly 108 pages. The final page talks of a man on a bridge, watching himself go by. Did anyone play through the video game. I wonder if any of these people will come into contact with themselves from a different time.
Here is a shot of the final, and 108th page:

And while I'm at it, might as well show you all pages 4, 8,
15, 16, 23 and 42:
Here is page 4, drama of nature, maybe a reference to the
show in general. It talks more about the heart cave and unlimately returning to it (Adam and Eve). Could be related to Sun and her drama with her father and Paik industries as well. It also talks about the eye and the I, and we all know that an image of an eye is very symbolic in Lost. Come to think of it, the bridge pic from page 108 even looks kinda like an eye.:

Here is page 8, very interesting. Talks about a gate to get to another side and
says that you must die in the process. Probably a symbolic death of ones current, selfish, self. It seems to relate to that fact that they should have died in the plane crash. Maybe in a sense, the point is for them all to die, to rise above and
become a better person, to be reborn as an enlightened being and pass through the gate. Maybe it specifically refers to Locke, who realized that he had to die before he could reach a true point of enlightenment.

Here is page 15, it talks about a trip "frought with paradox," which is very much related to the show. I like the part that mentions "as long as you have an ego, you are on a limited trip." Sounds like the battle that Jack is fighting, and ego that keeps him from seeing truth. Jack is fighting a paradox in his mind of science Vs. fate, the writers are trying to deal with the paradox of time travel.

Here is page 16, this one is interesting. Talks about going crazy, which liely relates to Hurley. He has gone crazy and the people around him are telling him so. The truth is, Hurley is talking on a higher Astral plane, and that's why he can talk to dead people. Anyone think Dave might have just been a dead person as well?

Here is page 23, It talks about being in the moment, which is a main theme of the book. This is a valuable lesson that the writers are showing all of our survivors learning. Perhaps this one relates more to Sayid than anyone else. Now that he has lost Nadia, he is out for revenge. Sayid lives in the past and doesn't care what he does now, so he is letting his life pass him by, seeking nothing but revenge. I hope he doesn't fall down the same slippery slope as Ben.

And here is page 42, it's about being in a prison in our minds. I think this one relates to Kate the most. She managed to stay out of prison for murdering her father, but she is in a prison in her mind. Sure, she tries to fight it, but eventually it will get to her, and she'll have to come back to the island to be freed. Perhaps the first message that is being refered to relates to the BIG clue we were supposed to find in the pilot episode.

Here are the more pages that I think relate to the show:

The one above talks about time and space and gravitational
field...very interesting.

The above shows, we must tune our receive mechanisms to the
correct frequency to understand the secret.
Well these pictures could spark all sorts of
discussion, I'm interested to hear what you all think. Thanks.

I checked. This version lists as being written by a Baba Ram Dass. Ram Dass was formerly known as Richard Alpert. There are even some used copies of the book available with the Dr. Richard Alpert byline. The link I gave is for the most recent printing, but if you search Amazon for "be here now richard alpert" you can get the older, out-of-print (Alpert) version.
