Ok this is waaaay out there but it poped in my head. Hurley is the #`s keepper, why do the haunt him so? Could it possible be that he is a decentant of Valenztti and therfore the responability of the equation now rests on him. Or even crazier Hurley is Valenzetti. Yea I know it`s out there but....

I think the numbers hav "attached" themselves to Hugo somehow. And maybe if somone else was to use the numbers, probably not lotto again, but maybe a roulette table, that person would get cursed with the numbers

Also, when they are not on the island it's always Hurley who sees the numbers in complete and right order, so in a way, the numbers or maybe the course-correcting universe trusts Hurley, that he will see the signs and be able to convince his friends that they are important since everyone likes Hurley- despite his mental records.
