Idea to help Lost-Theories.com refugees find their way here

I have an idea which may help all of the Lost-Theories.com refugees find their way to this site.

One of us secures a web address something like Lost-Theories.com/new-home and when it is clicked on a page comes up which briefely describes what happend and directs people to this site.

Or it could even be just a re-direct which sends people to an intro and explaination page here.

It could help all of the old members that we don't have contact info on to find us.

Of, course, the bad part would be that it could also help the trolls find our new base camp too.

Thoughts?

the trolls are gonna get the boot if they start there foul playing dont worry about that.

My thoughts exactly. Since theis site is much more proactive in dealing with trolls they shouldn't present much more than a minor annoyance

There are a lot of safegaurds to deal with trolls here, so they may come but they will not last cheers

I can add lost-theories.com to the meta-tags (tags on an index page that search engines like google read) so anyone who does a google on the website will have this come up in the search results aswell, and there is already a message on the portal.

The domain name is a good idea, its worth looking into but the likely-hood of that having any effect is very small as someone would actually have to try the url lost-theories.com/newhome and I dont think thats something a lot of people would do.

The best way is to get this site to the top of the google search. Anyone who is a member on other websites, and where the website allows, can put the link www.losties.darkbb.com in their signature, profile, or a links section (some websites do link exchanges in which case I am happy to link back to them)

I have targetted many directories and search engines, so it shouldnt be long before this site is right at the top of the search engine and easy to find by other refugees Smile

I think that all we can do is to try and advertise this site in as areas and forums where our fellow Lost theorists are likely to visit. We can also try and contact some of the other old members we know directly and give them the site address.

Ive just sent the following email to Jeff Croft, I'll let you know if I get a response:

Hi there

I have recently set up a phpbb3 forum for Lost fans, and in the last week have had a huge increase in members - namely the "LT Refugees" as they have called themselves. They are previous members of your lost-theories.com website, and are at best a little vexed as to how the site was shut down without any notice.

I am very pleased to have these fantastic members on my website - they seem like a very intelligent, polite and friendly bunch, and would love to be able to direct more previous members to my forum. I was also a member of your website, username Jax, but didn't post very much, so I am aware that you had no private messaging facility which means no-one had any means of contacting eachother to touch base and re-group.

I'm sure you are aware that online communities with something in common, such as being a huge fan of the same TV show, get to know eachother and form bonds. The running theme at the moment is how to bring more "LT Refugees" to the forum so they can rebuild the community.

So why am I emailing you with this?

I am asking you to put a link to my forum on a holding page for lost-theories.com so that other previous members can find us and re-unite.

I am aware there was a problem with trolls, and they may well find my forum too, but thankfully phpbb3 has many features that allows me to deal with trolls and maintain a friendly forum focused on intelligent debate. That with my years of phpbb experience means that this new forum is more than capable of taking on where LT left off, minus the trolling and other trouble.

I cannot offer you anything in return for linking to my forum, other than a link back to your main website in our links section, but I am hoping you understand the predicament we are in. One of the most popular Lost Theories websites has suddenly closed down with no direction for the loyal members. You could offer that direction and allow us to carry the baton forward.

Thank you for reading this, and I hope you can see where I am coming from with.

I think Jeff threw a monkey wrench into this plan. The LT site is back up. Apparently Jeff decided he will sell it. I've posted my annoyance with being treated with contempt and suggested this site for others to come. I suggest othe LT refugees do the same. Once people see this site, no way they go back.

Hey, everyone is entitled to their opinions, and there has already been posts on LT talking about this site ( thank you guys Smile

) so its only fair that members from LT can talk about LT on here.

Trolling wont be happening though, hopefully on both sides. Smile

I hope that I didn't overstep my bounds with my last comment. I plan on staying here. This site is better and I didn't like how we were treated at the end on LT.

In my post on LT, I hawk this site. I was asking others to say the same thing and let other LT people who are unaware of this place to know we are here.

I was a semi-old member, and I still love LT just because it's been
there and I'm more used to it. Once it is dead (don't give me that crap
thats it's dead) then I'll join here. For now, I wish that a lot of you
guys would stop bombarding (,mainly MYSTARBUCK) the site with JOIN THE
NEW SITE! We get point. MYSTARBUCK, we all get the point, stop. Your
relentlessness on this issue, escpecially when you yourself caused the
site being shut down, is very annoying.

(you are the one who rallied a lot of the memnbers to bug J croft just
because your precious accoutn was shut down) sorry for the sarcasm, I
just am really getting ticked off by him.

I am more than happy to link to LT, but please dont bring arguments from another site over here...this site has a Private Message facility, link at the top of the page, which you can use to communicate to eachother about this issue.

I think what you wrote to Jeff Croft was a very cordial letter.
I will be interested in hearing if he replies!

I also sent him an email, and just asked him why he could not have been a bit more proud , that his site would come up many times as the place to find answers about Lost. I also tried to be cordial!

I have not had a response from him though, nor do I expect to.

Just read this sunnyp and very much liked ur letter to Jeff. I will continue to read LT but will never again feel the affinity that i once did, It`s like LT was the girl that broke up with me but thank goodness she did because now i`ve found the love of my life
