Cindy Cindy Cindy

Post by Irocz28 on Tue Jul 22, 2008 4:58 pm

This is not an original idea, and it is probably been thrown around quite a bit. But, considering the very bare amount of offseason theories, I thought it might give us something to talk about.

Does anyone think that the flight attendant Cindy has been "in" on this whole thing? Maybe she was working with Ben the whole time to bring Jack to the island. She does serve Jack the dreaded orange juice on the plane. This could be the same orange juice that Julliette took to prepare her for her "bumpy" ride to the island.

Also, her disappearance from Ana Lucia's group was a little too quiet for me to believe there was any kind of a struggle. You had Ana Lucia, Eko, Michael, Jin, Libby, and Bernard walking with her and nobody heard a peep from her as she was violently abducted by the others. To me, it would be easier to buy the fact that she just walked off on her own will back to her real group, The Others.

And then you have her relaxed and calm demeanor outside of Jack's cage. When Jack asked "what are you doing here - with them", she responds with "It's not that simple". Very suspicious. I don't know. I think it is something to consider.

Cool idea. There is some good potential for that next season. We get to see where they took the children hopefully, and didn't Cindy say she was taking care of the children?

Here is her Lsotpedia link. There is lots of stuff there about her i had completly forgot.

Yeah I have thought about how her disappearance was very quiet. She would have least let out a scream if she had been caught. Isn't that what they usually do when they scream but by the time they turn around its too late.

Also Cindy hid the identity of the other in the camp. She said that she had not seen Nathan on the plane and so Goodwin was in the clear for a while.

Interesting point about the children Lateralus, but I have to think those little buggers might be grown up by now (aka - The Walt Effect). I am not sure if they can use them in any new episodes due to their growth.

Re: Cindy Cindy Cindy

Two points.

One Straight from Lostpedia - Cindy's last name is Chandler. A chandler is a person who makes and sells [color:a7bf=#00CC33 ! important][color:a7bf=#00CC33 ! important]candles. Dr. Marvin Candle/Mark Wickmund/Edgar Halliwax appears in the DHARMA orientation films/videos.

And Two if you remember the first debate on this site between MSHL and Lojozz. It was if the flight was planned or not. We etablished pretty quickly that no human could have planned this and that it was down to something supernatural or destiny. So it seems to me unlikley that Cindy knew about the crash before it happened, and that if she did that she put her life at risk.

What could have happened which seems to me more likely is that Cindy could have been aproached by the others after the crash possibley after the first kidnapping so that she would already be scared and offer her a safe placeto stay.

Although Cindy did seem like she cared about the kids so she might not want to go with the people who kidnapped them.

Although Cindy might want to go with the others to protect them and keep them from being scared.

Although if Cindy was going to go with the others she would have just done when she was aproached by them in the scenario above.

OR

It could just be one of those many plot lines that wasn't chased up and will be left.

Good points HSM. There is something about that whole orange juice thing that seems suspicious. Maybe it is that non-existent Pilot clue we are all looking for. HaHa.

Juliette drinks OJ, passes out, and arrives on the island with no memory of how she got there. Jack drinks OJ, blacks out during the crash, and wakes in the middle of the island with no memory of how he got there.

Yeah that is strange, we didn't see Jack get knocked out it seems like he just passed out due to shock. So the orange juice thing could be an option.

Also Jack said he had a bit of pilot training so I would think that he was very comfortable in the air and wouldn't pass out from shock.

Re: Cindy Cindy Cindy

Post by AngeloComet on Tue Jul 22, 2008 8:09 pm

The plane crash being delieberate is fundamental to judging Cindy. And whilst I have argued about reasons why the plane crash could have been intended, I think I still fundamentally come down on the accidental coincidence of the plane crossing over where the Island was at the precise point in time that Desmond didn't push the button.

If there was 'intention', it was not human intention. We can perhaps suggest that the Island had the power to ensure Oceanic 815 crashed and the people that needed to survive made it - the same way the Island prevents anyone who isn't ready to die from killing themselves (a la Michael).

So. Plane crash not planned but destined to crash, and the survivors destined to be there. So. Where does that put Cindy? As destined survivor? Someone on Jacob's list?

And maybe once she had been captured she was informed of her role in a convincing way. It won't be the first time someone has been convinced to alter their demeanour. We've seen Claire appear to go along with Christian and abandon her baby, which is way more drastic than Cindy choosing to follow The Others.

So that's what I think. She crashed, she survived, she got captured and then got converted. In that order.

AC, as I was reading your post I was going to challenge the converted thing by saying. If she was converted then she would have had to meet them at least once where she could have gone with them then instead of pulling off a risky capture. But I realise now that Cindy could have been used as a spy cancelling out the risk. Gathering information just like Goodwin. (Who Ben was not expecting to come back so there would be no info from him.)

Re: Cindy Cindy Cindy

THS - not sure I follow your meaning here.

I am stating that I believe Cindy was coverted AFTER she was kidnapped. I really believe she was silently, swiftly captured by The Others against her will, and up until this moment she had no more knowledge or awareness of The Others than anyone else in the tail section.

I am not suggesting she was a part of The Others before she was taken. I am not suggesting she was in the tail section group as a spy, working for The Others undercover.

(I realise there are discrepancies to her actions and behaviour whilst she was with the tail section - but I can just about argue past these to make my perspective work out. I might be wrong, but the logical odds of the idea that she survived the plane crash to be a spy for The Others are more far out than my interpretation.)

I'm not saying she was a spy beforehand. I mean she was approached by the others after the crash and then for some reason they didn't take her to the barracks then they waited for a while until they took her from the group.

If she wasn't used as a spy then what would be the point of her capture. Just another nameless other.

How could the others capture Cindy so that she didn't let out a scream even if it was muffled. Unless, the other dont have access to... chloroform do they?

Re: Cindy Cindy Cindy

I see - though I don't agree. I think Goodwin got all the information he needed, and it was only his persistence in Ana Lucia that made him hang around. We have to assume that the only reason Chandler wasn't grabbed earlier was because The Others just could not get to her because of Ana and Eko moving and protecting the group.

As for snatching Cindy silently. . .

A hand clapped over the mouth.

A sharp blow to the head.

Fast-acting tranquiliser dart.

Or, indeed, chloroform (a substance they could easilt obtain - just send Tom to the regular world for some!).

AC, i cannot buy any explanation that implys that a human being was physically taken from a group of 5-6 people without making a peep. Even the physical movement of an unconcious body is going to make noise. That does not mean that was not what happened. I can believe, however, that they wanted to make The Others so sly, sneaky, and crafty that they could in fact kidnap Cindy from her group without anyone even noticing.

In other words: In real life, there would be some kind of significant noise in kidnapping someone from their group. But, this is a TV show and the point of that was to build suspense, so maybe she was swifted away by the Others without making a sound. We probably will never really know how she was taken though.

I do agree with all your other points though. It's nice to have a good discussion again. The offseason sucks!! Haha.

Who's this girl?

Post by Occam on Tue Jul 22, 2008 11:19 pm

I know they are not great screencaps, but that's all I can do... She looks a bit different but, if you could listen to her again, the similarity of the voice would add to my point. Isn't she Cindy, but younger?

I watched it again just a moment ago --hence the screencaps. I know it's not a "Richard Alpert" case, meaning you would recognize her at first sight, but still...

Don't tell me they don't look like each other. On the other hand, Cindy has some screen time in "misterious scenes", and that must mean something... She even appears in "The Lost Experience", "Bad Twin", and "Lost Via Domus". A bit too much for a flying attendant, don't you think?

However, I'm not 100% sure about they being the same person.

Yeah, I agree with Irocz. They do have several different writers, maybe one wanted to take the others in one direction, the crafty silent-kidnapping others. And another one wante to epose them as normal people like in season three.

I guess it doesn't really matter. It's just something to talk about during the off-season. And you know that Cindy won't be a major character, No she won't AC!

THS! NO!

Jacob's not a MAJOR character in the sense that he has a lot of screen time. But he is significant. And in that sense, whilst Cindy will never be a major character, she ought to at least prove significant.

Not hearing CIndy during her abduction is not an issue. I've been in tropical jungles on more than one occasion. Get more than 15 feet from someone in the jungle and the ambiant noise and sound-scattering vegetation can easily block out sounds that are not so loud. Jungles are NOT quiet places.

And, refresh my memory here, was it raining when she dissapeared or was that just when Anna shot Shannon?
