Claire's comma mom...did I miss something

I'm not always the most observant guy on the planet but if I'm not mistaken, didn't we leave Claire's mom in the hospital in a coma with shitloads of brain damage. Claire was pregnant so I assume this was just before she boarded flight 815.

Say four months from then to Christian Shephard's funeral and Claire's mom is there telling jack that he has a sister.

I'd say that's one hell of a recovery going from brain dead on life support to jetting 18 hours from Australia to the US. That's even more impressive than Jack accidentally repairing Sarah's spine.

Seriously, did I miss something...like the epsisode where she wakes up, asks for Clarie and is told that she went down in the ocean on a plane crash?

MSHL you missed nothing, yet another miraculous recovery. Christian tried to persuade Claire to switch off the life support as there was no hope (might go back and check that dialogue, he could have been saying it wasn't necessary).

No need to check. I watched it last night to see if I missed something. He suggested exactly that. He also said that Claire shouldn't keep her mom alive on life support for the wrong reasons...I assume guilt.

Maybe that's one of the things Christian used to convince Claire to ditch Aaron and move into Jacob's Cabin with him.

Come with me and your mother will recover from her coma, the same way Juliet was told if she remained on the Island Jacob would ensure that her sister's cancer went away. . .

My work laptop is doing some very strange things today and this site behaving in a strange manner is amongst that.

I thought it was odd, when we saw Claire find out she was pregnant and her boyfriend said "well shes practically dis-owned you anyway" - I thought this was quite an insensitive thing to say if her mum was in a coma, which she would have been at the time.

SBP - I have since rationalised that statement as Claire simply not telling her boyfriend the truth.

That is, she didn't admit her mother was in a coma to Thomas (boyfriend) because of the guilt she feels about it. So to explain to Thomas about how her mother doesn't feature in her life she tells him that she's been practically disowned. Meanwhile she sneaks off regularly to visit her mother in hospital. . .

Not only "come with me", dude, but... "...and leave Aaron behind." That's something I'd never understand, if not because of something as "big" as her mother's recovery from the comma.

I don't think Christian had to convince Claire to go with him once she realized she was dead I think Jacob has shown her the 'big picture' , that her mother has recovered (thanks to him?) and that Aaron is being protected.

As for comma mum that was one of the worst attempts at an Australian accent that I have ever heard. And did anyone else find the woman very unattractive?[shallow rant/]

I'm with you on thinking Claire's mother recovered from her comma as a barter for following Christian to Jacob's hut. That would explain something that I couldn't understand before: that Claire leaves Aaron behind without doubts nor regrets. You know, after that Malkin guy made so big a deal about Aaron not being raised by another, and all.

Did I made some sense, now?

Personally, I'd say if there was a deal of this kind made it would have only been part of it. I think Claire must have received some kind of assurance that Aaron would have been OK, too.

However, there's something buzzing at the bottom of my ickle brains. Didn't Claire looked "stoned"? As if she'd been drugged, or something. She reminded me the time when she was abducted by Ethan, before Aaron was born... I'm not sure, but to me she seemed not to care by anything at all. That was weird, IMO.

That's a very good observation. And you're right - she did have that same carefree quality that we had seen in her before, and you've bullseyed that precise moment that had also eluded me, too.

They drugged her then into convincing her that giving away her baby was a good idea. And there she is, similarly drugged, and her kid is gone. . . Nice work.

So drugged and not dead then? I'm much happier to go with that.

Why did they seperate her baby from Claire ? The only explanations I can think of is that they knew Aaron would be safer at the beach, without Claire or they needed Claire to convince Locke..

Well, I don't know why did "they" --whoever "they" might be-- separated Claire from Aaron. I only was speculating about how could Claire leave Aaron behind, and observed she looked as if she had been drugged, just like Ethan did to her.

Yes. When Claire was abducted she was drugged by Ethan. During the episode Maternity Leave there was that scene with Ethan in Claire in that open area outside The Staff Station, sitting on the tree log. It was there that Ethan said no one was forcing Claire to give up her child, but Claire, slightly groggy and smiley, said that it was what she wanted to do.

It's that same kind of happy, drugged willingness I am reminded of when I think of Claire's demeanour in Jacob's Cabin.

I was reminded of the exact same thing, I think she is drugged.

I know Occam I was just thinking to myself, who might have done that and why, if she really was drugged before we saw her in the cabin. I mean, she did look drugged !

I agree that we've seen this look in Claire before ..but the "undead" Christian having access to Pharmaceuticals? Seems a bit coarse for the Island.

I'd be more likely to buy mental coersion or influence than drugs.
Or that she really is now among the undead like CS
