A musing about Sawyers swim
Did he follow the correct bearing from the boat to the island? What could it mean if he didnt?

Just another contradiction of the show, I guess. When the raft was blown up by the Others way back when Jin, Mike and Sawyer all drifted back to the island with no time distortion that we know of.
I have read a theory suggesting Jin could have arrived back on the island before the freighter exploded in keeping with what happened to Doc Ray but the more I think about it, the less it works for me.

my guess is that Christian Shephard used the submarine to reach the freighter and it was on this submarine that Jin escaped the explosion of the freighter!

I think Sawyer jumped out and swam back 'within' the Island Bubble, if you like. That is, he didn't cross the threshold where Desmond felt the effects of mind time travel.
(Sawyer, also, hadn't been exposed to a lot of electromagnetism or radiation.)

A better musing would be: Where the hell did his shirt go?
Tunisia?
Tunisia?

AC. Reasonable explaination.
Not exposed to radiation...but Jack's exam of Sawyer did reveal what he WAS exposed to.
And when Desmond got pulled onto the raft he was not wearing shoes but he was when he got on Penny's boat...Maybe he got Sawyer's shirt too bruhtha.
WTF, please remember that you are over the age of 30 so you have reached your "Sawyer Peak."
Unfortunately I reached my "Kate Peak" at 18...a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away!

Re: A musing about Sawyers swim
I thought he was in sight of the island and the freighter had moved closer to it so the bearing issue wouldn't have mattered. What bothers me is swimming the distance and the life raft snafu.
Couldn't they have tossed him a life jacket or raft? Oh yeah that's right... they threw everything out that wasn't bolted down... oh wait... except for the life rafts... but then they could have...

Interesting responses
I hadnt thought that the frieghter had moved closer, but I guess it must have done if it could be seen from the beach.

I thought the engine still wasn't working because they found the bombs before they got a chance to fix anything.

They got the engine moving, but then they noticed the Fathometer was out. The coxswain then pushed forward on both throttles (indicating forward motion, although none was evidenced on film) and stated he wouldn't go any closer than the reef (5 km, maybe). If I'm accurate, that would mean the reef was outside the bubble, and therefore Sawyer had to be dropped inside 5 km... which is a tough, but achievable swim (assuming you're not wearing a shirt).Lateralus wrote:I thought the engine still wasn't working because they found the bombs before they got a chance to fix anything.
