Sawyers Act of Bravery
Many plaudits have been given to Sawyer for the heroic way he sacrificed his own escape from the Island just so the helicopter could reach the freighter.
Now we all know Sawyer has evolved from a loner, self centered hard ass into somebody who fiercely protects his friends and who dearly loves Kate but has this transformation sent the guy a bit stupid as well!?
He jumped from the chopper 50/60 feet into the water below... the same water where a couple of months earlier he was nearly eaten by the Great White Dharma Shark!!!!!
Thats not brave thats just silly!!

Ha, I've seen a lot of inconsistencies with that scene and the finale.
But I guess the beach was only a little way off...
And even though it's water if he landed wrong he could have broken his ribs/arms/legs and drowned

Re: Sawyers Act of Bravery
From my own personal biased opinion, I think like a lot of brave acts, there was an element of stupidity-if you want to call it that-involved.
I thought it came down to the promise that Sawyer made to Kate earlier in the season, that he would keep her safe which parallels with Jin who made the same promise to Sun a few episodes later.
I thought he also knew Hurley was feeling guilty with his weight on the chopper(and we know he would have been, because he blamed his weight on an accident that killed eight people in his past.)
I guess my avatar speaks for me on this subject

I have thought it was strange that Hurley said this to Jack when he went to see him in that gym.: Source - Lostpedia
"In the Beginning of the End"
"[Jack starts to leave]
HURLEY: I'm sorry. I'm sorry I went with Locke. I should have stayed with you.
JACK: Its water under the bridge, man.
HURLEY: I don't think we did the right thing, Jack. I think it wants us to come back.
JACK: Hurley.
HURLEY: And its going to do everything it can...
JACK: (Shouts) We're never going back!
[Jack heads for the door]
Why would he say that? He did go with Jack when they left the island, so even though he initially chose to go with Locke when they split into two different groups, he did ultimately end up being with Jack on the helicopter and one of "The Oceanic Six" Anyone have any thoughts about that?

I'm surprised Sawyer didnt push Jack out of the chopper. Now that would make a good scene.

KSJ, maybe he felt a little responsible for Claire etc and what happened in Otherville.
His speech kind of motivated a lot of them to follow Locke.

What I really don't understand is why Michaeil didn't at least make a run for it instead of standing right by the C4 to the bitter end.
Now thats silly!

I am with WTF on this one. Look, Sawyer was going down either way. If he didn't jump & give his friends a chance to get to the freightor his outcome was the same.....water. So he was a hero b/c his brave jump got his friends to saftey. So there. Sawyer is a hero.

Not anymore. I think Sawyer was a hero. A crazy, desperate hero, but a hero anyway. He was giving up everything, as far as he knew --his opportunity of a life with Kate, and his daughter-- for a chance to save everyone else on the chopper. Ok, maybe just Kate, but hey ho...
