the new ORG dharma logo

i posted this on lost_theories as well, just thought it was interesting enough to put it here too...

alright, so this is copied & pasted from the lostpedia page about the dharmawantsyou website:

“The new DHARMA logo formed uses a different method to display the same eight trigrams seen in the standard one - instead of 3 sets of lines, solid shapes are used. However, the trigrams are not arranged in the same order as in the standard logo - the new one is rotated one quarter-turn clockwise.”

the thing that jumped out at me about this statement was that the logo has turned. one quarter turn clockwise, in fact.

could it be some strange reference to the turning of the donkey wheel? as far as i could tell, the donkey wheel would’ve turned about a quarter of the way around before ben poofed into the desert, & it was turned clockwise too.

i don’t think this means anything significant in the big picture of lost, but if the producers are going to that much trouble to give us little easter eggs, they’re my new best friends

Very insightful take on the logo. And you're right, if that's a deliberate subtle change as a reflection of the donkey wheel business then it's impressive attention to detail.

Or maybe it's just a way of showing that Dharma has 'moved forward' to a new phase. But even if that's the case, your idea still fits.

Interesting to note (I was trying to adapt this idea into an entire theory, but I'm not sure it means that much) is the change in the orientation of the trigrams, in terms of their meaning. Specifically, if you look at the top of the logo...

Old Logo:
3 |¦| (☲) 101 (binary)
Chinese: Radiance (離 lí); nature: fire (火); direction: south
Korean: Li, The Clinging; attribute: Brightness; Pheasant, Eye, Second Daughter

Now the new logo:
7 ¦¦| (☶) 001 (binary)
Chinese: Bound (艮 gèn); Nature: mountain (山); direction: northeast
Korean: Chen, The Arousing; attribute: Movement, initiative, action; Dragon; Foot; Eldest Son

In season 5, will the eye scenes be replaced with the foot... maybe 4-toed?

i like the foot connection as well, but they better not start using close-ups of feet to begin episodes... that'd just be wrong.

haha, it's not your endorsement precisely, more my level of excitement at said endorsement that makes me a fangirl. don't let it worry you too much, i'm a weirdo who doesn't make sense a lot of the time.
