Daniel has notes in his old notebook on the Orchid - EP 12

It looks like someone (possibly Des) has given Faraday a heads up in his past on the Orchid station. When Daniel heard the term "Orchid" over the radio, a bell went off in his head and he began searching his notebook. This was the same notebook where he listed "Desmond is my constant". There he found the scribbled words "Orchid". He had a memory immediately and seemed to understand its significance. The message was from the past. Daniel told Charlotte they have to get off the Island...... NOW!

I thought it was odd that its in the same journal...i'd be interested to see a scrrenshot of the page as there seemed to be a lot of notations there. I'll have a look for one later if no-one beats me to it

That could really be the case.

I remember thinking that Desmond must travel in time again in the following episodes to contact Penny and make up, as Penny was delighted to hear that Desmond was still alive from Charlie. Because this was the guy who had dumped her, why look for him for so long ?

And he did indeed travel in time again So either what you suggest will come true or Daniel made his research/ was acknowledged by Abaddon about the Orchid before he came to the island and his slow memory is just the way that he is . It's on that same notebook though, so it could be a clue

I find the note "Space like factors" interesting....not sure what that could mean though. Now we just need a physicist or mathmetician to decifer those equations

Excelleny points, Tracker, and I couldn't agree more. I see Desmond & Daniel interacting throughout the timeline, but not in the linear since. Like a perfect circle continuous in in "loop"

I think it is a safe bet to presume Faraday and Desmond are still experiencing time jumps allowing them to communicate vital information about Keamy & Co. and The Orchid specifically.
Faraday may be my new favourite Man.

Purge the island with a swarm of bees or maybe lotus, that would probally make tr41 happy,lol.

Someone had to get the Orchid heads up to Daniel, could it be Ben or Alpert? we know Ben travels through the Orchid station but I have a feeling that we will see one of our losties doing the same very soon...it could be Desmond doing the traveling

Keamy knows about the Orchid and the fact that Daniel says they are using the secondry protocol and must get off the island (he knew that this would mean torching the island) suggests to me that Daniel knows more about the mission than he is letting on. It does not sugget anything about time jumps.

The fact that the term "Orchid" was in Daniels notebook suggested that the writers were making a link to the last time they showed notes from the book. That being the "Des is my constant". I think it strongly suggest time jumps.

I'll take another suggestion on why they showed us that notebook. They did it for a reason.

Hey Tracker, Last time they showed the note book it said if anything goes wrong Des would be his constant. We have never seen Daniel time travel but he clearly knows more about the island than just about anybody else. He knows that something could go wrong that would cause him to experience side effects. His note book could just be all about the island, he knows of the danger in leaving/approaching the island so its in there. He knows about the dangers of the orchid so it's in there. I just think its a huge leap to say because he knows about the orchid it has to be to do with time travel.

There is Elouise...Faraday has the equation to jump through time (in a temporal? way)and could be having flashes like Des. I like the idea of this tracker.

Agreed it's a leap. Just trying to make square pegs fit the square holes. IMO the notebook represented info from Daniel's past that he wrote down in case he forgot. A note or reminder to (or from) his future self.

I am going to leap here and say I think we will see Daniel (back at Cambridge) do some time travel experiments on himself. Maybe scrambling up his brains a little bit. I'll jump even further and suggest we will find out "Future" Daniel travels back at times to write notes in his notebook to help "Past" Daniel.

I know this is all speculation but there seem to be something the writers are leading to.

I think Daniel destroyed his memory by not shielding his head from radiation, this was even mentioned by Des. I think the island is ‘fixing’ his memory and this is why he knew he had notes on the orchid. The book (or the notes within) have acted as his memory but now he is getting his own memories back.

Daniels note saying that if anything goes wrong Des will be my constant makes me believe that he has yet to jump. That said I suppose a person could have multiple constants, I just don't like it very much as an idea.

I like your idea about the island healing his scrambled memory. If so, we should soon see a flashback on how (and why) he uses the notebook.

I do hope my theory turns out be be at least partially correct. I could use some bragging points!

I don't think Dan has ben jumping around in time either. The notes in his notebook make sense if viewed in a linear way. Dan is a brilliant scientist who has pursued studies either directly related to, for, or simply about the Island.

And with his bad memory he made notes of it all. Clearly, hearing the term Orchid triggered a memory in those memory banks of his and he was sent rushing to his notebook to see what it meant. Clearly, he didn't like what he learned, but there are plenty of more rational explanations as to how he knew about Keamy's plans without having travelled in time.

I mean, if he could travel in time surely page one in his notebook would read: DO NOT GO TO AN ISLAND ON A FREIGHTER!

Something just occured to me....what if its not Dans notebook? Could be he have aqcuired the notebook from someone else? There would have to be someone else who needed Des as a constant - Penny perhaps? We know she has been researching the island and Naomi had a pic of Des and Penny.

Keep in mind, at this point there's really know no way of Des knowing anything about the Orchid station in the past or the present. Doesn't mean Faraday's not getting his information in that fashion, but it may be coming from someone else besides Des.

And I like the idea that it could be Penny's notebook. Maybe Charles Widmore provided his freighter with that notebook and the photo.

Interesting thoughts, but I'm sure these people made lots of research and were informed by various sources prior to setting off for the island.

what if daniel experimented on himself like Eloise just on a larger scale? What if he zapped himself with what he thought was a "human sized" dose of what Eloise got? Causing his future consciousness of being on the island to come to him in 1996 where he scrambled and wrote down everything he could in that notebook so his 1996 self would read it and know what to do.
