The Numbers

The 4,8,15,16,23,42 must all be a part of a formula. they must be all i have come up with is 108 when u add them, which is the time on the death clock in the hatch. But im now starting to think its just random numbers that hurley won on the lottery because hes bad luck, but maybe im wrong there might be more relevance to it. its so annoying not knowing lol

I believe some people have worked them out to possibly be coordinates? And I think the result is close to where the island should be? Maybe I'm remembering wrong, but I thought that was pretty cool

This was part of the lost experience, the number are the core values of the valenzetti equasion. (Its a thing whichpredicts the end of the world). But I also think that the numbers show up to show that somerhing is important.

Numbers can generally be manipulated to mean whatever you want them to mean. I believe the creators didn't pick the numbers with any grand scheme in mind about their meaning. That they mean something is hopefully true - but that they mean something that can be mathematically worked out is probably untrue.

So whilst coincidences can be struck - such as co-ordinates to the Island (if the Island moves this can't be true), or even theories about how they relate to key stages of pregnancy - I think the magnificence of the numbers is how all manner of meaning can be applied to a series of digits that are, outside of the Lost universe, fundamentally meaningless.

(This is the kind of topic that deserves a post of its own. If I get the time and the wherewithal, I might even have a go.)

Holystickman is right but they also have a larger purpose as they are everywhere.

Me too. I believe the numbers are every where because we are to believe that the island or some kinda force is every where.

As I said before Mr Comet. I also dont believe that the number mean anything mathematical. Or else someone would have worked it out already. So my best guess is that the numbers show to signify something important. The more numbers the more important.

i think the numbers are masive in their scope and intent..was thinking that each number represents 1 of the factors that will end the world....to change 1 of the factors changes the equation and so the world can be saved etc....and the dharma have tried doing this by observing the inputing of thr digits...by observing it you change it is quantum principle, mathematically experimented with....

so.....we often see the numbers cropping up in all sorts of combinations with all sorts of characters...

sooo....as far as hurley goes for example...hes linked to all six...others may be diff combos...but essentially the numbers are represented by the diff characters and if you can connect 4 of them then all 6 are achievable...

the question needs to answer what the 6 factors are that make up the equation..

my guesses are they could be something like but not sure

time
mass destructive capability
human error
ecology
technology

so anyways.....

was thinking all of these factors have come together and the end of the world has been avoided...by desmond like the old lady in the jewellry shop suggested...

not sure if im on the same track...mind went wandering then...

I still would like to believe that the numbers point to an exact date.
I posted a theory on LT a long time ago about this.

Perhaps its both a date and a set of coordinates.
