Claire is DEFINITELY dead! DEFINITELY DEFINITELY DEFINITELY
Since Hugo was visited by Mr Eko and Charlie,
Michael was visited by Libby,
Jack was visited by his father,
Mr. Eko was visited by Yemi
and Locke was visited by Boone
and all visitations seem to be by dead people,
does it follow that Claire visiting Kate in her home means that Claire is actually dead too?
If this pattern is correct it means that she is dead or among the "undead" whatever that means.
Dramatically, I don't buy it since the "Claire found alive and reunited with Aaron" scene may be too juicy a thing for the writers to pass up.
But you normally don't get spectral visitors who are still alive in the world of Lost. Based on that alone, I would have to say that Claire is dead.

Shannon, Locke and Sayid were visited by Walt, but Walt is not dead.
Boone was visited by a tied up Shannon who he saw get killed by the black smoke monster, but she was also not dead at that time.
I think the appearances of Walt are enough to make your conclusion about Claire being dead very dicey.
So I say the jury is still out on this one.

"Boone was visited by a tied up Shannon who he saw get killed by the black smoke monster, but she was also not dead at that time."
(trying hard not to make a pervy comment like:"Mmmmm, tied up Shannon")
yeah Stitch, but that was your Boone on drugs...doesn't count. Drugs are bad...m'kay? And I would have preferred a gagged Shannon anyway!
"Shannon, Locke and Sayid were visited by Walt, but Walt is not dead."
(MSHL thinking fast) Yeah, Walt is just tall. NO, what i mean is that these were manifestations created by the island for those on the island, not those off the island. Those off the island (Jack, Hurley, possibly Widmore, and now Kate) have been visited only by the dead.
AC, its Lost. When has a dream ever been just a dream on this show?

I see your point...but....
I'm just not fully convinced that Claire is dead. OK I admit it... I DON'T WANT CLAIRE TO BE DEAD! So yeah, I'm sure my emotions could influence the way I see it.
BUT, in all seriousness, I DO have a thought regarding these "encounters" with "dead people". Although the majority of these "visits" were in fact by dead people (we think)... it doesn't necessarily mean that ALL visits or encounters are from dead people.
I mean, what about WALT? We know he's visited Locke a few times in a very similar manner as these "ghost encounters", yet in the season finale, we saw that Walt is alive and well. So perhaps there's still HOPE!!

The Walt appearences were on the island.
Maybe the island is using the dead as a tool and sending them off island to influence others.

Re: Claire is DEFINITELY dead! DEFINITELY DEFINITELY DEFINITELY
The writers obviously want us to debate it all summer long that`s why they made it look like a dream. Much like the coffin we will know when we know.

There hasnt been many dreams in lost and none that I can think of have involved dead people. I dont think Claire is dead, I think shes as good as though, she'll stay in the cabin and then probably wont say much when someone comes in.

Have to agree with AC and HSM. An extra example Mr Eko appeared in Locke's dream before he was dead.

Dead Yemi appeared in a Locke dream. Dead Boone appeared to Locke in his dream-like vision quest.
And was Kate having a dream or a vision...there is a difference

Well she woke up after it so I say dream. Now it may be an island induced dream. Im just pointing out that from your list it is the only one that is a dream. So the original premise is flawed.

Re: Claire is DEFINITELY dead! DEFINITELY DEFINITELY DEFINITELY
What I think it could be...either;
A dream visitation from a dead Claire, warning Kate not to bring Aaron back because she knows that the o6 will eventually return
Or....nothing to do with Claire, but the island sending Kate a message.
Or....simply an anxiety dream brought on by Jacks inisitence that they have to go back. Regardless of Aaron not being Kates child, she loved him as her own and would not want anything bad to happen to him.
Im inclined to go with my third option

Re: Claire is DEFINITELY dead! DEFINITELY DEFINITELY DEFINITELY
I think what's interesting about this season is that the weird stuff that previously only happened on the island is now happening off island-dreams with instructions, visions, whispers, etc. I had always thought, "ok, they'll end up explaining all these things as part of the special magnetic properties of the island," but does anyone have a theory as to what could connect the island to, let's call it "the normal world?" I guess it could be just an effect of having been on the island but I don't understand how this could physically be explained even in the Lost universe.

Not a therory Kristen but I am one who holds the thought that the island is or part of a collective concious that is trying to course collective.

Lojozz, Locke woke up after seeing Yemi when he and Eko were looking for the "?" Pearl station.
Micheal woke up after Libby showed up in his hospital room.
Why are these visions and Kate's just a dream?
Jax, I like your "Island sending Kate a message" That fits in nicely and since the island seems to send dead people to carry those messages...

Michael was visited by Libby - He was awake, closed his eyes and then the real nurse was there. Also saw her on the freighter when he was awake.
Jack was visited by his father - Many time always been awake.
Mr. Eko was visited by Yemi - Both in dreams and whilst awake.
Locke was visited by Boone - Drugged up but awake.
All of the above are visits of dead people and in all cases they have happened when awake, some have dreams as well.
Now Kates was defo a dream, as she woke up after. Your question 'so does it follow Claire is dead?' no it doesn't here are some other examples of Dreams when the person wasn't dead:
Locke dreaming of EKO
Hurley dreams of Jin
Charlie dreams of Aaron and Claire
